A Tank Called Grizzly

April 23rd, 2008 by best online games

Here’s the plot: Four of your friends have been taken hostage. There is no time to put together a rescue force. It is up to you to go defeat the enemy and perform the rescue alone. Fortunately, you are behind the wheel of a powerful tank called Grizzly. That’s where the fun begins!

You maneuver the tank through crowded streets as enemy soldiers, tanks, and jeeps try and attack you. You can always see how much damage your tank has sustained by looking at the red indicator light in the right of the screen. The Heads Up Display (HUD) will also tell you how much ammo you have left and how many bad guys you need to kill.

While playing, you can keep switching back and forth between guns and rockets. Guns are effective against soldiers while you need the rockets to take out enemy armor. Every now and then, you will see a glowing rocket in the street. Try and head in that direction. If you get there before an enemy unit, you will have laser rockets for a limited time. Laser rockets have a greater range and are more powerful than the standard ones.

If Grizzly takes too many hits, you will first get a warning. If you continue to take damage, eventually you will lose and be asked if you want to play again.

The first level is easy. The grid map is fairly small, and you have a limited number of enemy units to destroy. However, as you advance in levels, the game quickly gets harder and harder. By level three, you are constantly moving and firing. You get no rest until you clear out the whole place of enemy units and rescue the four captives.

It is a good game and will definitely hold your interest for an hour or two. Some people will play longer, but I find that once you are past level three, you feel that you have conquered the game and are looking for a new challenge.

Bloody Rage

April 6th, 2008 by best online games

You can’t come up with a title that evokes more images of senseless, graphic violence than the name “Bloody Rage.” Yes, here is a game guarantied to poke your curiously. I mean, seriously, who can ignore trying out a game with a title like “Bloody Rage?” I don’t know why, but all of us game addicts always love a really violent game and the more blood the better. With that in mind, I decided to play this game which promised “Mortal Combat” style action.

Sorry to let you down, but the best part of the game “Bloody Rage” is the title. You select a character and then go out to fight. But first, you must pass a test that involves breaking ten barrels that are rolling toward you. Ho hum…. not so much fun. You are given a menu of the different keys and combinations, but there really are too many to memorize. I found that the way to win all the fights was to basically just mash all the keys on the keyboard together over and over again. Then your character throws out punches, kicks, and all sorts of groovy things and you can always beat your opponet.

So if you have a lot of time, quick hands, and an indestructible keyboard, you could actually get through the whole tournament and win. But in all likelihood either your keyboard would break or you would get bored by the dull, repetitive “action” way before you met your fourth challenger. Take my advice, skip this game and remember, just because someone gave a game a great name like “Bloody Rage,” does not necessarily mean that game will be that great.

Try Your Luck - 21 Trivia Competition

March 18th, 2008 by best online games

If you’ve made your way through all of the trivia games on Facebook, it’s time to try something new. The 21 Trivia Competition is a new quiz game you can play online. The best part? If you answer all 21 questions correctly, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a $21,000 prize.

My first question after hearing about the competition was: What kind of questions would make up the quiz? I knew that the theme was supposed to be 21 - so how many questions are there about the number 21? It turns out that there are plenty (at least 21!) Do you know who performed a song called “21 Questions”? Do you know who was number 21 on the world champion Italian football team?

If those questions would have stumped you, there’s no need to worry. There’s no time limit when playing the 21 Trivia Competition, so you can take as long as you need to Google all the questions and come up with the right answers. And you won’t feel like you’re cheating, because the makers of the game suggest that you do just that.

Try your luck at 21 trivia and get a chance to win $21,000.

Have fun playing!

Tiny Combat

March 3rd, 2008 by best online games

Tiny Combat 2 is a sequel to the widely popular original Tiny Combat. On the screen there is the American base. It is under attack and your job is to defend it. You have a sniper site, and you use the mouse to move the site over the enemy soldiers and click to fire. While the beginning is easy enough, it becomes harder and harder to keep up as the enemy soldiers start coming in waves.

After the first level, the enemy uses jeeps and tanks in addition to the foot soldiers. You can still kill these with your rifle, but it takes a lot longer. By the time you have destroyed one enemy tank, a dozen of his foot soldiers may have approached the perimeter and started shooting. Once the American base withstands a certain amount of damage, your mission has failed. If, on the other hand, you can kill all the enemy, then you are given a successful mission report and advance to the next level.

As with many basic games, the next level is simply the same thing only harder. The look is the same. it’s just this time the infantry, jeeps, and tanks all attack at once. On level two, it is extremely difficult to defend the base from all enemy units. By the time you hit level three, it is virtually impossible to keep up. On the other hand, if you do well, you get to submit your name online for all to see your prowess.

Happy Lover

February 17th, 2008 by best online games

I had no idea what to expect when I clicked on the game “Happy Lover.” With a name like that, you would expect something a little bit profane, a little racy, and a little funny. I really was surprised at the result. In fact, I could only play the game for a few minutes before I got bored. Big letdown for a game with a name like “Happy Lovers.” Let me explain.

When you start the game, you see a scantily clad couple on the beach. Sounds good so far, right? Then, there is a large variety of clothing on the right side of the screen. The object of the game? Using your mouse, you drag over articles of clothing and place them on the happy couple. That’s it!

The clothing is not even that funny. Yes, you can make the young lady where different color blouses, but so what. There are a few wigs so obviously you have fun placing them on both the man and the woman. And of course, I am sure everyone places the wigs in rude places also. But that kind of fun grows stale in about 5 seconds. There is literally nothing else you can do with this game!

Most free online games can hold your attention for at least 15 minutes, but Happy Lovers is lucky if you are happy for 15 seconds. With everything else out there, I would skip this one. Go find some aliens to kill instead. Now, if you use your imagination, I am sure you could devise a much more interesting game with the name of Happy Lovers. So when you do, e-mail it to me and I will review it.

Save the Beer!

February 5th, 2008 by best online games

At first glance, Brewery Defender looks very appealing. First, the very name tells you something. This game is not about protecting Earth from an alien attack or beating up bad guys. No, this game is about something much more important to most of us. As the name tells us, this game is about defending a brewery. That’s right, it’s all about the beer.

The object is simple. Various objects are falling from the sky and will eventually destroy the brewery at the bottom of the screen. You control a little blue figure that when placed under the debris (with the mouse) can become a shield and prevent further damage. You must keep moving it since you never know where the falling objects will come from. As the game goes on, more and more objects fall faster and faster. You need to have good eye/hand coordination and be able to move fast to keep up.

If that is not enough, every few seconds a beer truck leaves the brewery and attempts to make it to the edge of the screen. If it makes it without being hit, you win points. Otherwise, it blows up when the debris hit it. So now, in between protecting the brewery, you have to move the blue guy over to protect the beer trucks. You keep going back and forth until the brewery is destroyed.

While I love beer and protecting a brewery would be a mission very near to my heart, I have to say that this game is not dynamic enough. There are no bigger breweries or different types of trucks once you become proficient at the entry screen. The debris just keeps falling faster as you go up in levels. So while the game is fun for about an hour, I don’t see it holding attention longer than that.

2D Knockout!

January 20th, 2008 by best online games

2D Knockout if a true fighting game. If you do not like violence, skip this game. However, if you like to brawl, then by all means, have fun with the Knock Out.

In the game, you battle various opponents by throwing punches and blocking your opponent’s jabs. To throw a punch, use the left mouse button. To block, use the space bar. Moving the mouse moves your figure around the ring. The key is to move in quickly, throw a fast series of punches and then back out before your opponent can land any hits on you.

What I really like is that each opponent comes from another part of the world. In between each fight, you see a map of the globe. The country where your opponent comes from is highlighted, and you also see his flag. Now, that may not be a lot, but recent polls have show than twenty percent of Americans cannot even find the United States on a map. This may because many people don’t even have maps! This game will help those people.

Be warned, if you like to fight, this game is addicting. I played for several hours and never ran out of opponents. Germany, Kenya, and Thailand are just three of the fascinating, exotic places where 2D Knockout takes you. But don’t let me spoil the fun, play a few rounds and see how you do. If you get knocked out, you can always just start again!

Since there are not so many variables, this game is great for beginners. All you need to learn is how to jab and move. If your fingers are quick enough, you will go far.

Batman 2

January 3rd, 2008 by best online games

Batman 2 is fun, challenging, and very addicting. It is true to form and a worthy successor to the original Batman game. The plot is simple and there are enough levels to keep you playing for hours, if not days.

Here is the scenario. Batman is trying to find Batwoman (who wouldn’t!) She has been kidnapped by the Penguin! Before you get to her, you need to battle through lots and lots of bad guys. Along the way, you get points for touching the bat emblems that appear sporadically.

To Jump use the space bar and to walk in either direction use the left and right arrow keys. The key is to learn how to fight. Use the “S” key to throw a punch and the “D” key for a kick. The best way to fight when attacked from both sides is to jump over one of the bad guys so that all your opponents are on one side. Then use a combination of rapid kicks and punches to battle your way though.

As you progress through the game, you will need to think faster and faster. In some levels, you must always be moving up and down through a series of elevators. You can be attacked from either side or even from above and below. While it seems there is an unlimited number of thugs, there are limits. Once you kill all the bad guys, you are allowed to go to the next level.

After each level, you battle the Penguin himself. Watch our for his poison shooting umbrella! Until the last level, if you beat him, he manages to escape. In the last level, you actually get to rescue the mysterious Batwoman!

The music sounds exciting but quickly gets old. Turn down the volume and play your own tunes is my advice. But give the game a try. It’s not bad.

Tower Bloxx

December 16th, 2007 by best online games

I have always fancied myself as a really good town and country planner, believing that I know where everything should be in a town. In addition I think that I have a good eye and a steady hand. These are characteristics that definitely come in useful when playing the Tower Bloxx game.

The basic idea of the game is that you have bought yourself a piece of land on which to build a small town or city, the game describes it as a thriving metropolis but that is a very overflowerly way of describing it. The investors in the town give you a crane and building materials, the more people you manage to bring into the town by building accurate tower blocks and commercial centers, the more money you get and the more points. You also have the use of a demolition crew if you are not happy with what you have added to your town.

The game works very simply, you choose a square on the town grid for where you want your tower block to be built and you start building. A crane swings a piece of tower block over the area you are designated to build on. By pressing on the space bar key or the down arrow or a left hand click of the mouse, you drop the block. You then receive more blocks to drop on top and build up a tower block. For every block that you drop 100% accurately and make a perfect match with the one underneath you get full points and maximum number of citizens. If you hit less accurately the number of points and citizens is reduced. If you miss then you lose some and so on. The more accurate blocks that you build the better it is and you are eligible for more blocks and commercial buildings also. The game progresses from a small town to a recognized city and so on. It is fun and exciting to see a city being built before your eyes.

There is also the quick game version where you can build just one block at a time. Tower Bloxx is a game that you can leave and come back to when you want. It is fun and not too fast pace but does test some of your accuracy skills making it interesting at the same time.
